What is The Catalogue of Chaos?
The Catalogue of Chaos is a collection of unpredictable, impractical, and occasionally dangerous magic items for D&D 5e. This campaign is funding Edition 3, a softcover book containing 30–40 brand-new magic items, illustrated and fully written for tabletop use. Some items won’t appear in the future hardbacks, making each preview book a unique collector’s piece.

What do I get if I back this project?
Depending on your pledge level, you’ll receive Edition 3, previous editions, PDFs, a T-shirt, or even a custom artwork commission. You can also add on extra books or a special TTRPG called “Everyone is Jeff.”
Backers at £1 or higher will also have their name included in the “Chaos Champions” section of the book.

How will the Early Bird rewards work?
We are offering a special Early Bird Bonus for backers who pledge in the first 48 hours of the campaign. This will include an exclusive digital PDF featuring 2 original monsters—complete with full stat blocks, lore, and unique abilities—alongside 2 short adventure encounters that showcase these creatures in action. These encounters are written to be dropped into any 5e campaign with minimal prep.
This content will not appear in the main Vault of Monsters Book, coming later this year on Backerkit making it a true early backer exclusive and a first look at the tone, style, and danger of what’s to come.
If you back within the first 48 hours, you’ll automatically receive this bonus digital content when rewards are delivered.

When will I get my rewards?
We aim to begin fulfilling digital rewards (PDFs) in August, and print books will ship shortly after that.
If there are any unexpected delays, we’ll keep all backers updated through project updates.

How does shipping work?
Shipping will be charged separately after the campaign through the BackerKit Pledge Manager. This allows us to calculate the most accurate rates based on backer locations.
Estimated shipping costs for physical rewards:
UK: ~£6 per book EU: ~£10 per book US: ~£12 per book Australia: ~£15 per book If we get more backers than expected, we may be able to negotiate better shipping rates.

Will VAT or customs fees be charged?
Backers outside the UK may be subject to VAT or import duties, depending on local tax laws. We’ll collect any necessary VAT after the campaign through the pledge manager to comply with international regulations.

What if I miss the campaign? Will I be able to get the books later?
The Editions are limited-run printings, so once they’re gone, they won’t be reprinted.
The magic items from Editions may appear in future hardbacks, but some will remain exclusive to these smaller editions.
If you miss the campaign, there may be a limited chance to order through BackerKit Late Pledges, but we can’t guarantee stock.

Can I get my custom magic item or character in the book?
At the £500 “Grand Arcane Patron” tier, backers can commission a custom piece of artwork depicting any item in action. This artwork will be signed, framed, and included in the future 100-item hardback edition.
This does not include designing a new magic item but if you’re looking to contribute an item idea, we may introduce community voting stretch goals in the future!

Can I upgrade my pledge after backing?
Yes! You can change your pledge level anytime before the campaign ends by clicking the “Manage Your Pledge” button.

What is BackerKit?
BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!
The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.
How does BackerKit work?
After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.
I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?
The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.
Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.
To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.
How do I update my shipping address?
BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.
When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?
That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.
I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?
As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
1) What backing means
By placing a pledge on BackerKit for Catalogue of Chaos, you are entering an agreement with Driftforge Games for the creation and delivery of the project rewards. BackerKit is not a party to this agreement and does not offer or fulfil rewards.
Backing a crowdfunding project means supporting something in development. Timelines can shift and changes can happen during production.
2) BackerKit platform and payments
Payments are processed via third-party payment providers (for example Stripe or PayPal). BackerKit does not hold funds on our behalf and does not offer refunds itself. Refund requests sit between you and us.
3) Pledges, surveys, and add-ons
* Your pledge level and any add-ons selected through BackerKit form part of your support for the project.
* You agree to complete any surveys needed for fulfilment (address, reward choices, personalisation info, etc) within a reasonable time.
* If a survey is not completed, we will use reasonable efforts to contact you. If we cannot confirm details, fulfilment may be delayed or sent in a “best fit” format (for example, default option, or digital delivery only).
4) Estimated delivery dates
Any delivery dates shown on the campaign are estimates, not guarantees. We will keep backers updated if dates move.
5) Fulfilment and changes to rewards
We will make reasonable efforts to produce and deliver the rewards described on the campaign page.
Sometimes a specific component becomes unavailable (printer changes, manufacturer changes, shipping restrictions, supply issues). If that happens, we may make reasonable substitutions of equal or higher value and comparable theme/function. If a substitution is significant, we’ll explain it in an update first.
6) Shipping, VAT, customs, and address changes
* Shipping fees (if charged separately) are shown during checkout or in the pledge manager, depending on how the campaign is configured.
* Any import VAT, duties, customs fees, handling fees, or local taxes charged by your country are your responsibility unless we explicitly state otherwise on the campaign page.
* You are responsible for keeping your delivery address up to date in BackerKit by the stated address lock date (or before fulfilment begins). If a parcel is returned due to an outdated address, we may ask you to cover re-shipping.
7) Lost, delayed, or damaged parcels
Once a reward has shipped, delivery times are controlled by postal and courier networks. If something goes missing or arrives damaged, contact us at [email protected] within 14 days of delivery (or expected delivery). We’ll work with you on a sensible resolution (replacement, partial replacement, or other fix) depending on stock and shipping constraints.
8) Digital rewards
Digital items (PDFs, audio, downloads, keys, etc) are delivered via BackerKit or by email. You’re responsible for keeping access details safe. Digital rewards are for personal use unless the reward description includes a commercial licence.
9) Refunds, cancellations, and chargebacks
Our refund policy for Catalogue of Chaos: Refund requests reviewed case by case. Fees already incurred (payment processing, platform fees, production costs) may be deducted. If you raise a chargeback through your bank without contacting us first, we may pause fulfilment while the dispute is handled. BackerKit notes that chargebacks and uncollectible payments can affect what creators receive.
10) Creator communications and updates
We’ll provide updates through BackerKit with reasonable frequency, especially if timelines shift or fulfilment starts. BackerKit’s policies put a lot of weight on creators staying responsive and avoiding long-term silence.
11) Data protection and privacy (GDPR)
We collect only the personal data needed to run the project (for example email address, shipping address, reward selections). For BackerKit campaign fulfilment, the project creator is the data controller for backer information collected for surveys and shipping.
We will:
* use your details to fulfil rewards and provide project updates
* share details only with service providers needed for fulfilment (printers, fulfilment centres, couriers)
* keep data only as long as needed for fulfilment, support, and legal record keeping
* respect reasonable requests for access, correction, and deletion where applicable
12) Intellectual property
All writing, artwork, design, and project materials remain the property of Driftforge and any named collaborators/licensors. Backing the project does not transfer ownership. Any licensing terms are only those explicitly stated in a given reward description.
13) Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not liable for indirect losses (for example loss of profits, loss of business, or consequential damages). Our total liability relating to your pledge is limited to the amount you paid for the affected reward(s), except where the law does not allow this limitation.
14) Force majeure
We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform caused by events outside reasonable control (for example natural disasters, strikes, war, transport disruption, pandemics, government restrictions, major supplier failure).
15) Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.
